looking for input on a hardware update(mobo ram and HDD?)

so a few months ago I bought a 4U rosewill case for my file server/torrent box.

current specs"
Antec P180 Mini
Anthlon II X240
Gigabyte 785G-UD2H
2x2gb A-Data DDR2 800
OCZ Vertex 30GB
2x1.5TB WD Caviar Green's(have 2 more, was running 2xraid0 with a manual backup to the second set in windows server software raid so no raid 10 support 🙁 )
and a DVD drive(that had to be unplugged cuz I didnt feel like using my Silicon Image pic sata card)

it has a xigmatek sd 1283 on it running passive with just the top fan, it was a LP low heat build.

well I started to run a few VM's to play at home, and the AII isnt cutting it, nor the 4gb of ram. I have another 2x2gb set of ddr2-800 and a 1055T on my desk.

the raid 0 GP's are pretty slow. almost painful. can't seem to stream 1080P across the network, but that could be a combo of issues, the CPU seems fine, but maybe the onboard NIC isnt up to the task.

even though bulldozer isnt what most hoped, I am tempted to pick up one of the 880G boards with 6xsata6 ports on it and usb3 and am3+ support. incase I really like running VM's I can toss in a 8core bd later when they get cheaper, and of course ddr3 is cheeeeeeeap.

I just swapped in some nice scythe fans into the chasis while watching the bears pwn the vikings, and now should figure out WTF I am going to do with this box.

should I go up to 880g?
add in 4x4gb of DDR3?
should I get another NIC?
what 2-3TB HDD's are actually fast and arent going to brick on me.

would be nice to get a 3TB and let it backup to the raid-0 1.5TB greens. or I suppose I could raid 5+hs the 4x1.5TB greens, but I am worried about access time.(using 1.2 TB now, so a 2tb drive is doable)

I might snag a few intel gigabit nic's anyways as I might toss a PFSense VM on it for playtime as well, so if I get a new board I should probably go ATX(have room for EATX) so I know I wont run out of PCI/PICE slots

or should I just toss in the sata-1 card for my DVD drive, and the x6 and ddr2 and run that as is?

I plan to virtualize the server 08 install on it and go to hyper-v server at some point if that matters, and I have a 250 gb and a 320gb 2.5" sata 2 hdd laying around if I need to replace the 30gb ssd to do this right.(in case anyone knows of some issues with hyper v etc)

I don't see any reason why that can't send a 1080P video out over the network. That's a fully sequential workload, which your RAID0 drives and Gigabit Ethernet should have no trouble with unless something is seriously wrong. Try to isolate the problem by running HDD benchmarks like CrystalDiskMark and network benchmarks like iperf.

As for the upgrade, given that you have more memory and a pretty decent server processor just laying around, I'd pop those in and see how your VM performance improves.
