Howdy. One of my old (er, 1991 I think?) magazines had a story about an australlian who bought an old Merlin spitfire V12 engine for like $5, cut off 2 cylinders and used them as an engine in a motorcycle frame. I can't find any info on it now though, seems no one ever heard of him.
Perhaps someone here might know about him...or any other weird motorcycle projects like it?

lol..

Definately possible, but you'd have to be a machinist to get it to work properly.

Wow, I can't beleive someone actually did that. It would have been easier to build the whole motor from scratch.

It really is a hobby for old retired guys with nothing but time on their hands.

Yeah, I know..

A few months ago it was my dream to buy a minature lathe and mill and get to work, though. :) I will one day...

ohh, thanks sward! thats what I was looking for. however, back when he first assembled it, he had a WR50 fuel tank (like, 0.2cc inside it :p) borrowed from his daughter's WR50, I think. nice to see he got a REAL fuel tank!

Oh, the HORROR! That "thing" probably has horrible emissions! I'd take a 250cc Honda or Suzuki or <insert low-powered import bike here> over that thing ANY day.

Thats what I was thinking. If you have enough skill to do this then why not design a motor from the ground up to fit your spec's a lot better than this.

But to each his own

Jay Leno has a turbine-powered bike. Now who wouldn't want that?

He also has a pre-war car powered by a V12 from a aircraft. I saw a video of him driving it with Dennis Gage (from My Classic Car), and the entire chassis twisted when he got on the gas. Truly beautiful.
