Looking for info on old speakers, Altec Lansing ACS51

The story goes like this. I see a garage sale listed about half a block away with the word computer. I figure my laziness factor is about 2 blocks, so I take a stroll to see what they have. First things first, no computer. There never was one, not even a 486 they're trying to sell for $150 like I usually find at garage sales. They do have inflated prices on computer games. Five bucks for a 7 year old game that cost two bucks at the time? I think I'll pass.

I see a box with a picture of some new logitech speakers, and a $1 price. Opening it up I find a pair of speakers, model Altec Lansing ACS51. Other markings include the word multimedia and "With Phantom Bass) I buy them for a buck, no big loss if they don't work. After plugging them in and hooking them up to my surprise they work. Don't sound too bad either, at least good enough for when my headphones won't work for the situation.

My problem is this: I can't find information on them anywhere. A few random posts and pages come up when googled, but nothing solid. Does anyone have information on them or a place which may have information on them? One speaker has the electronics hooked into it, with two headphone jacks for inputs(I only use one, get stereo sound), a plug for the other speaker, and a plug for a sub. I'm thinking of hooking a sub up as they still have quality sound, but I have no information on the speakers and am not an expert at audio. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

There are some subs that can be plugged into that port. Altec Lansing made one (like 6 or 7 years ago) that I remember hooking up to a set of Yamaha speakers with a similar output. By today's standards, it sounded like crap.

You might try emailing Altec Lansing for a product brochure or manual.

I don't suppose you could supply a picture? I owned an Altec set at one point, and I'm pretty sure that was it, but without seeing it, I can't be sure.

Only digital camera I have is 5+ years old and extremely cheap. It'd be a good picture of two offwhite blobs. E-mailed the company, hopefully they'll help me out. Otherwise I'll borrow a digital camera and post a link.

Yes, those are the ones. I honestly can't believe how good they sound for being so old. I've been messing around with my audio and I'd put them up against my friend's 4.1 logitech set. They're cheap, but much newer. Thanks cmp1223 and the rest of you. At least I have some specs and schematics to work with now...

Eh, not quite the set I had. Sorry to get your hopes up, Brule.

Hey, it cost me $1 and works, pretty hard to be upset about that. Looks like I'll be doing some audio work. Now to find a sub for $1....

Update: e-mailed their customer support, which replied with basicly a form letter telling me to call their 1-800 number. Called the number, got some guy whose response was "why don't you buy a newer set of speakers?", as if somehow that would help me. Anyhow, with the link cmp1223 supplied it's a DIY project now. Thanks for the help everyone. Can't believe they have no information on it at the company, no matter how old it is.
