Hi,
I am assembling a new pc and need help to choose best configuration for my requirements (Which are multipurpose). I work in research and developing different projects, so need to use lot of different applications simultaneously. So basically i need flexibility at my work. Games are secondary and any 2014 games will be enough.
The best wish requirements are
1. Games like battlefield 4, fifa 2015, fry cry 4 or late 2014 titles will do
2. Rybka/stockfish chess analysis
3. Applications like photoshop CS6 or any adobe CS6 suit, coreldraw x6, firefox multiple tabs, ms office, video editing and other high end applications.

I am looking at 600-700 dollar pc (excluding monitor) and some of the configuration i have shortlisted are

1. AMD FX-6300
GeForce GTX 750 Asus 1GB OC Edition
8GB Ram
2. AMD FX-6300
Radeon HD 7770
8GB Ram
3. Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz
Integrated graphics intel HD 4600
8GB Ram
4. Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz
Integrated graphics intel HD 4600
8GB Ram
5. Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz
GeForce GT 730 GC 1GB
8GB Ram

Desired configuration would certainly be 4 if it gets the job done. Intel processors would be most desirable since it have latest processors and have good cooling system ( which also important). I am not going to use multiple systems or retina resolution. Basically i have ipad or tv for movies. What i most require is high end multipurpose pc with gaming secondary. Any other configuration please let me know. Not running applications with at least medium end use would be deal breaker. Budget is tight, 600 dollar would be most desirable.

Are you buying in the US?

i7 and 750 Ti under $700 (at time of posting.)

You will be disappointed with a 730 or HD 4600 for gaming.

No...from India..
Basically cost will be high in India as compare to USA... for example take this built
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JtZHLk
It costing approximately 742$ to me In India currency while in US it is costing 550$

What type of games I am expected to run with above 5 choices without any lags? What type of apps I am expected to run

The 750Ti is a midrange card. Medium setting, medium framerates. It almost doesn't matter which of the CPUs you get, since you'll probably be limited in gaming by the GPU. Gaming on the Intel IGP or the GT730 isn't really doable.

But for the other stuff, you'll want as much CPU as you can, which basically means at least the i5 configurations.

So it depends which is more important to you - the gaming or the work.

Hi,
Can you plz help me understand why passmark is giving FX-6300 the score of 7386 while I5 4460 giving 6983? I could go 8350 at the same cost as I5 and get much better performance. Please help me understand the different.

FX-6300 also allows overclocking while the 4460 doesn't.

FX-6300 is 6x arithmetic cores with 3x shared floating point units. i5 is 4 of each, but the individual cores are significantly better. So you might see pretty wide variances in performance between the two, with one or the other coming out ahead depending on the specific benchmark. It just depends on the software and what kind of architecture it might be optimized for.

More detailed benchmarking, vs. the FX-6300:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/699?vs=702

and vs. the 8350:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/697?vs=702

(The 3470 in this benchmark database should be pretty comparable to the 4460. On the average, it looks like it's a bit faster than either the 6300 or 8350.)

The Intel chips have significant advantages in most gaming benchmarks. It's probably wash between the two for most of the page layout and design work you're talking about. I have no idea on the chess performance - you'd probably want to check the Rybka/Stockfish websites/forums to see if they work better on one platform or the other.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.

So I am shifting towards Intel I5 4460 (4th option) and for games I can buy Xbox 360 if require.

So my final question is 4460 and HD4600 enough to run most of applications mention above without any issue? We can forget of the games for time being. But applications, that really important. Hopefully those apps don't require good graphic cards.
