Zmni,

Try searching the AMD forum for discussions on your motherboard:

I'd suggest a K62+ or better still k63+ which will overclock to 550 or 600 Mhz. These are the "last chance" to get a performance gain out of a SS7 motherboard but can be hard to find as they were not released for retail sale. They are not always easy CPU's to use, not all motherboards work and most need either a bios upgrade and/or software utilities to "tweak" the chipset configuration for these processors.

If you do try to use one, research the history on the AMD discussion group and it is also a good source of friendly advice before and during your project.

It is still possible to get reasonable performance from a SS7 system whilst saving up the $$ for your 1000MHZ plus dream machine. Good Luck !

Yup, ya definitely want to go with the K63+ 450. I have mine running stable at 660MHz.

I have a K6III+ 450 in the P5A board and it works like a dream...I too have mine up at 600 at 2.1 volts. I saw a post over in the Hot Deals forum a couple of months back that said you could get the K6III+450 for $49 shipped...I jumped all over that deal and picked up 4 chips.

Frankly, you're pretty much at the point where a new MB is the best option. I have a 500K6-2 and it looks like the next step is a duron 800.
