Looking for help/ideas for building a new computer

I am relativley new at building computers and would like people's input/help on which company makes the best hardware, ie. PNY makes the best geforce cards. I don't know if that's true, but you get the idea. Also, I'm wanting my new machine to be a gaming machine. So here is what I would like for people to post. The specs on an ideal gaming machine, but I don't want it to be one without a budget. I would like it to be the best one for the money and one that would overclock well. I would like for it to run games with setting maxed or almost maxed on all games, also would like for it to be a system that will play d3 and hl2 decently. All help is appreciated.
Current specs:
AMD 1700+ @ 1.47
Mobo ????
Geforce Fx 5600 128mb
Western Digital 60gb
512mb, probably 2100

thanks

dont get a 60gig hd, 80 gig is only like 10 bucks more and its 20 more gigs

i would get Amd xp2500+ or intel p4 2.4C
mobo MSI, Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, are all good companies, you should get an Nforce 2 mobo for amd, and i865 chipet mobo for intel
512mb ddr 333 is bout 85 bucks at googlegear.com i would get that

vid card i would get Radeon 9700 np

here's what i'd get:

athlon 2500+ (barton core) which should overclock to 3200+ levels on default voltage
at least 512 MB PC3200 DDR (corsair or kingston)
big fast hard drive...you decide how big is big enough, but no less than 60 gigs
nforce2 400 motherboard (asus a7n8x is good)
radeon 9700 non pro is a good pick for video (mwave has em for 199, i think)

that would be a pretty good setup and wouldn't set u back too much (i.e. $90, $140 for mem, $100 at most for hard drive, $125 for mobo, $200 for vid ~$650)

granted, u'll have to finish it up with an optical drive, a case, speakers, etc. but u can choose those

I'd get a 120GB Maxtor Ultra from ODepot for 60 bucks.

Barton 2500+ is a very popular and good chip, and a good board for it is the 8RDA+. I have an EPoX board myself; it's wonderful.
