Looking for Headphones

Hi,

I am looking for some headphones in the $150 range... I will be using them primarily for music and Counter-Strike. They will be plugged into a receiver I have, which is plugged into my AUZENTECH XMISTIQUE.

The phones that have really caught my eye are the HD580... they seem to have balanced sound and a high level of comfort.

Any other suggestions? Comments?

There's a customer review at Amazon who says the sound of the HD580 is about equal to the MDR-V6, but the Sony cans are more comfortable. Opinions like this are subjective, of course. But you'll save over 50% compared to the HD580.

I personally own two pairs of the Sony, one for home, one for work. The pair I bought 17 years ago needed the earpads replaced about four years ago, but otherwise they still sound just like the newer pair.

I like my Sennheiser HD-555 Audiophile Headphones alot and they have a great deal at Newegg right now.

I am in love with my Sennheiser HD-595 ($190), effing awsome respons quality, I think the 580s would probably do you well.

Another advantage of HD595 is that it could be used without an amp.

HD580 will not sound that good without an amp.

Senn HD-555s or HD-580s. I've used the 580s without an amp and they were OK. They do shine with an amp, but I really preferred their overall sound signature for music over the 555s & 595s. The 555/595s are great gaming/all around cans, though!
