Hi

I am looking for good, cheap or just any PC hardware stores in New York. Manhattan would be best since I won?t have access to a car. Anyone from around there that has any favorites?

I am from Sweden and soon to be visiting so no net stores will work no matter how cheap, good or what ever. I am planning to buy a Radeon 9700 Pro or a 9800 if they have them.

All tips welcome

J&R doesn't have great prices, from my experience. I've lived in NYC many, many years and I must admit that I've never purchased computer parts here. Online for me. J&R is s very fun store to go, though, as they have so much stuff (and own a whole block in Lower Manhattan). At the other end of the island is J Systems, a little store run by a decent fellow, it seems. Check it out if you're interested. They're pretty new, I think, so I've only been in there once.

j&r doesn't have great prices but they do attempt to price match. all you have to do is bring in a printout of a lower price even from an online store and they will try to price match it. sometimes, they don't even ask for the printout. i got an antec plusview case for $30 less than their advertised price because i found it cheaper online.

Manhattan is a bad place to buy hardware. The rents are too high for anyone to offer bargains of any sort. I live in NYC and perfer to order from Newegg. Like people said there is J&R downtown. In midtown on 5th and 37th there is CompUSA which is okay for stuff like network cards, nothing big though. Across the street on 5th and 38th there a a place called Datavision, which is alright because they bargain with you. Also on 38th between 5th and 6th there is new place called chips and tech. They are a bunch of ass-reamers but in a pinch you can talk them down.

Still I only buy hardware in Manhattan when I need it that day. Newegg has much better prices, even after the shipping.

It really depends on what type of hardware you need, but I would definately be going to the small asian computer stores in NYC who for some reason are hard to locate. They also cater to computer shows a lot (tri-state fairs). They have the best prices and actually meet internet prices and you can ALWAYS bargain! There is one place in chinatown I know on canal st and near east broadway...but there has got to be more.
