Dave, I have lots of "toy" monitors. I am currently using 1 37in sharp and 2 32in sharp, both at 1080p and both considered by me to be toys. I use those for day to day work and gaming. I do do some Indesign stuff on it. But when I need real meat and potato work involving Photoshop or Illustrator, I head to my other comp which boasts 2 244T from Samsung. I bought them for my business and imo there is no equal. Here is a link to the newegg advert, but it is no longer being sold there and I know not the status of these. I do suggest you stay away from 2ms displays as they are usually just for gaming.

I used to game on this as well with no issues as well. But for color and clarity, unmatched in the same price range, which is around 500-700 bucks depending on samsungs mood at the time. Otherwise, your looking at 1-2k for a serious monitor.

The 245T is dead and gone for years now, the 244T even longer. It's possible you might find a used/refurb one, but probably not at any price you'd want to pay.

Dell's U2410 is the right price...but it seems like every single one they sell now has the pink-green tint across the screen, and user reports just keep getting worse and worse. When it first came out only a few people reported the issue, and now I don't think anyone gets a unit without it. The 2408WFP had this issue later in its life as well.

NEC's EA231WMi and 2490/2690 v2, Viewsonic's clone of the aforementioned 23" NEC, Dell's 2709W, Apple's cinema displays and all 30" monitors are the remaining mass market displays that can be suitable for professionals. If it weren't for the tint issues the Dell U2410 and HP LP2475W would be ideal, but both companies have totally blown off their customers and told them to deal with it.

If one can't afford the thousand bucks or so for an NEC or Apple 24-inch display, then the best option is the Dell U2410. Unfortunately, there are egregious issues with LG.Display's panel QA, and the monitor companies have finally grown sick of accepting endless returns from us display snobs (and there's a part of me that doesn't blame them, since the fault is really LG.Display's). The Dell U2410 (or HP LP2475w, or NEC EA231WMi) buyer will have to hope he gets a good one and/or that whatever unformity / tinting problems turn up will be within his tolerance levels.

One option recommended on XTKnight's LCD thread is buying a refurb NEC LCD2490WUXi, but the refurbs only come with a one-year warranty, which might be unacceptable to a business buyer.

Another option (which I am seriously considering) is getting the NEC EAC231WMi when it's really cheap (a few days ago it was $260 after Amazon cashback on Buy.com, heh). You're probably at least as likely to get a duff panel as with the Dell (and the NEC is only 1920x1080), but you won't feel as disappointed / enraged, since you'll have spent about half the price of the Dell U2410.

I wish somebody over in Korea would do something about LG.Display's manufacturing practices. It's the only IPS producer in the computer market...

Thanks for all the excellent input... One question tho, No one mentioned LaCie monitors? Is it the pricing? I'm going to assume those are top quality monitors? the 24" is almost affordable... *sigh*
