Looking for good *plain* keyboard...

If it was me I'd just grab one of the OEM Microsoft or Logitech keyboards from Newegg. I've bought a few for other people ~20 bucks and really solid and nice.

u cant go wrong with that microsoft or the logitech. there simple and get the job done. i went with a couple of the microsofts since i think wireless mice and keyboards are more of a hassile then anything.

I generally don't like the feel of the Logitech keyboards... they're too "plasticy." I don't know how to put it better... and I've have a LOT of different Logitech keyboards... As for Microsoft's keyboards, the ones I've tried weren't too comfortable for me personally... don't know.

I've loved the keyboards on my Thinkpads though, so I'm partial to IBM in that sense, but don't know how good their regular keyboards are.

can't comment on IBM keyboards... never used on. I just know I'm real happy with my Logitech MX duo, and my customers have always liked the microsoft OEM keyboards I use.

my new IBM keyboard is a pos. The keys are already wearing down (letters worn down). My next keyboard will be a MS Multimedia Keyboard (20 bucks from newegg).

thats strange EngenZero. i found microinnovations IBMs to be far superior to logitechs and ms keyboards, so much that i even put up a mini review under my name 🙂

We have a bunch of the IBM keyboards at work and most people don't like them because of the way the insert/delete/home/etc. keys are layed out. It's annoyong because it's dfferent from the standard layout. So you need to figure that into your decision.

I usually use whatever I can get. The older IBM keyboards that weigh about 20 lbs and are made of metal are nice. Sometimes older is better. It would be nice if you could take old mainframe keyboards and use them. They use to make some with 20 function keys.

IBM Trackpoint II, PS/2 interface model.

Built solid, like a legendary "Model M", but with their additional laptop trackpoint widget on it. It also has a PS/2 mouse pass-through port on the back, so you can use a regular mouse at the same time besides.

Not necessarily cheap, if you can find one, but then, buying the best is never inexpensive. 🙂

I also have a secondary keyboard hooked up, a Memorex Multimedia MX2750. Not too bad a feel, for a squishy keyboard, and it has a ton of those "gizmo" keys on the top. Those kind of scare me though. One of them, if I accidentially hit it, can power-off the machine. 🙁 It was cheap enough though, bought it on sale at CompUSA for $4. It's stylish though, silver + black, like my optical mouse.

I'd probably recommend the Logitech Internet keyboard over this one though, it has a scroll wheel built in, and has a slightly better "feel" IMHO. But nothing can beat the solid, "clicky"-feel, Model M keyboards overall.
