I love the Baldur's Gate & Icewind Dale series and am looking for another party-based RPG to try out. I've played NWN 1&2 and they were OK (liked the setting but not the gameplay). I didn't really like KOTR. Dragon Age & Mass Effect are on my list but I'm hoping to find some other suggestions as well that I may have missed over the last decade or so.

Obviously you have played Baldurs Gate 2 with the Throne of Bhaal expansion.

If you like Baldurs Gate but didnt like Knights of the Old Republic, I dont know what to do. I honestly cant recommend anything except Planescape: Torment and Temple of Elemental Evil.
Really there isnt much else besides Dragon Age. I agree Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 were poor substitutes for Baldurs Gate, but there really isnt much else.

Shortylickens nailed it, you've already know all the best choices. I don't know of any others for pc besides what you mentioned. KOTOR was awesome though, you might want to stick with it, it gets pretty good. I would re-play it, just haven't gotten around to it.

Standalone:
Planescape: Torment (arguably the best RPG ever made)
Tales of Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (an excellent title from the creators of Fallout 1 and 2)

Free NWN1 Community made Modules:
Hex Coda 01
Tales of Arterra Series

Checkout the free NWN1 modules first since you already own NWN1.

I'm going to have to second Arcanum. That was one of the best RPGs I've ever played. (I've played baldur's gate series, icewind dale, nwn, dragon age...)

I honestly think rpgs need to stop with the higher-end graphics. Go back to the gritty pre-rendered 2d stuff. They leave more to the imagination. If rpgs started getting churned out like this left and right with good stories/content I'd buy the shit out of them.

Just make a new polished old-school style game engine with a good rule system and pump out some games for like $20-$25 a pop.

There are a ton of good options if you want to go really old school and don;t mind dated graphics. Bane of the Cosmic Forge and Wizardry 8 are great party based RPG's.

i don't know what the majority of rpg gamers want, but i'm completely with you on this. if they were in 2d, i probably would have enjoyed dragon age 10x more, and might have actually tried out fallout 3.

Arcanum:

I will "third" it. Good story. Mix (?trade-off) of magic & technology. Party based (but can solo most of it, if you really want, on a replay). Lots of MODs. A true RPG since you can develop your main character any way you want (and develop your NPC companions any way you want with MODs) and can solve most quests several ways (good, evil, with violence, without violence - cunning or persuasion, etc). Worth a replay immediately just to try out different things. And worth a replay every few years.

But if you go the tech guns route, be sure to get the MODs. The guns were underpowered. My main went the tech backstab thief route, but that is just me ;)

KOTOR:

Too bad that you did not like KOTOR. I bought it clearance-bin priced, did not expect much, but thoroughly like it. It is also worth a replay every few years.

Have you tried NwN1 online in online multiplayer? Large parties are possible. Of course, the other party members will be other people and not players you control. Search for a server called "Higher Ground Paths of Ascension" or some such.
