Looking for good memory timings thread or guide

Hello,

I have done some searching but haven't been able to find a good guide to memory timings. For some reason I just don't get it yet and most of the threads I find are a little convoluted.

When I overclock I typically don't do much hard core clocking, I just move up the fsb/cpu v/mem v as needed and possibly some memory dividing if needed.

When it comes to the memory timings of cas etc. I just don't understand anything beyond spd defaults.

Can anyone help?

I have an e6300 on a p5b-e with 2gb Gskill ddr2 800 F2-6400PHU2 with spd timings at 5-5-5-15.

Can anyone help on what I should be doing or should I just leave it as is? I have the e6300 1.83 @ 2.5 right now and will go higher when I get an artic 7 or something besides stock hs/f.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Something like this? I've been doing a little testing of my own as well that I can share, if so desired.

I suppose that's not really an explanation, but it's still interesting.
