What is a good price? Where can I get auto insurance 101 info? What do You have and why do you recommend it? How about GEICO?

Is it wiser to just go with my parents' insurance since I'm under 25 and that would save me money than any other companies as my own?

wait, my insurance company tells me that I am on my own. Could you elaborate further on 23 yr old stuff?

Does this differ between companies? Could anyone name a good auto insurance in MA?

I have used several companies, including State Farm and Allstate. I am currently with American Express through Costco. All you have to do is shop around; just call a bunch of companies and get quotes for the level of coverage you want.

Personally, I go with whatever's cheapest because I'm single and not quite 25 so I'm still paying a lot despite my perfect record.
Some people are willing to pay a little more if they feel they will get better service.

AAA: Killer service, pays and handles claims very quickly, not cheap.
21st Century: Pays claims, after three months of waiting w/o a car.
Mercury: Claims your check was a day late, refunds the amount your check was for after you get in an accident (someone w/ Mercury nailed my dad, this is what they did)
Allstate: File a claim, and get a lawyer on the same day, you'll need one.

State Farm, Farmers, and a couple others I've heard are okay but nothing spectacular.

I dont know if its just me but i have always found out how much it would be to insure a car before i bought, i always factored this into the final monthly payment and my decision to purchase it.

Maybe im doing things backwards.

I like Nationwide pretty well. They are kind of expensive, but their service is really good. When my car got broken into and all my stereo equiptment stolen, they had it all replaced with newer, better models, and it was professionally installed by a local stereo shop (Columbus Car Audio) ...........all with NO Deductible! w00t.

I've had:
Geico: cheap and great service.
All state: not cheap but great service.
State Farm: so so price but great service.

Out of the 3, I would recommend Geico to you if you could get on their policy.

I've had

Farmer's: Mid-level cost, poor service
Geico: Cheap, decent service
Allstate (current provider): Cheapest, decent service

I switched to that stupid lizard and they saved me 10%. If you're a gubment employee like me, you'll get even better rates through them.

I do the same thing. It takes all of 10 minutes talking to your insurance agent and (IMO) can have a fairly large influence on a car-buying decision.
