What is a 3.5" enclosure that is supposed to be a very good one. I want to make another external hdd for my friend because he is going to store and transfer videos for football films to watch and move around from computer to computer. I have used 2.5 enclosures and found Vantec to be good. What is your opinion on this subject? Thanks.

This is about the best I have seen. It can be used as a network external.

LX

Maybe a bit pricey, but very cool.

Pricey barely describes that.

Cheap enclosures work well enough. I don't even remember what brand my Firewire enclosures are, one of them gets occasional use so that's not really much stress on its reliability. Enclosures are all essentially the same product, they all use one of the same few chips and their circuit boards are probably made by the same places.

Yeah - cheap works in many cases. But cheap doesn't buy a built in Ethernet link. I can spend a few bucks to access a storage drive in the house when I am on the patio with my laptop. :)

I'm talkin' wireless. Appreciate your points- they are good. I have lots of little expernals floating around - mostly Firewire 2.5's. Somehow they get created when I upgrade laptop HDDs. Call it a by product! :)

What I really would like is a wireless network SATA enclosure.

Take care, MiLord.

If it's going to be "On" all the time this is the only enclosure I've found that will keep the drive below 50c. If it's only going to be used occasionaly, any case will suffice. I see people talking about a "Spin Down" feature implemented in some external HD cases. This is preferred cooling method if the case doesn't have a fan.
They're many variations of external cases. Do your reasearch and find the internal and external connections needed for your specific situation.
