What I plan on doing is getting a 19" CRT to play games on, and using the LCD for easy-on-the-eyes text work. I want to buy a new CRT, not a refurbished one...from what I understand Aperature Grille CRTs have been discontinued. So...what's the best 19" CRT, for preferably under $175, maybe $200, that can do 2048x1536? The Samsung 997DFT/T looked like a good candidate. The price is right, but I want slightly higher resolution and higher refresh rates. The 1920x1440 resolution has a refresh rate of 64 Hz which would kill my eyes. 2048x1536 would require a damn small dot pitch to fit on 19" I suppose. I feel I've been deprived of decent CRTs so I'm ready to give in. I'm not too picky about color because I'm using a 6-bit LCD now, but I certainly want it to look a little more vibrant. I probably won't get this monitor until my birthday in September.

EDIT: How about the lowest dot-pitch 19" monitor for about or under $200-210, with best refresh rates?

I've got the Samsung myself and like it, but the high refresh rates it can pull don't scale very high like you mentioned. I don't know if you'll be able to find 75/85hz at 20x15 on a 19" CRT. If so, it would have to be a professional CRT that would cost quite a bit.

I have the Samsung Syncmaster 997DF and don't have a single problem with it - Besides its absolutely massive size and weight. I use it because I like playing my games in 1600x1200, and it was one of the only monitors that allow that at over 75hrz. (60hrz REALLY messes with my head)

It can actually run up to 2048x15xx but, I don't use it, because the refresh rate is too low. 1600x1200 is pretty much all I need for my 6800GT anyway. (Mmm... Pirates!)

I'm planning on doing the same as you, i'll be grabbing a 19inch LCD int he future for lanning and dual screen - lugging around this nearly 50 pound behemoth is a pain. I also just love the extra room that two screens add. (mmm... 2520x1024)
