Looking for free intranet / Lan application softwares (like.. instant massenger.. collaboration aid(to do list..calendar

Hi!!

I'm working ata company with very poorly designed LAN.
about 7 computers ..ll running under Win2K.
Now.. someitmes I don't see network printer (connected to another computer).
anyways..


We desperately need some kind sftwares.. f(which is freely available..)

1. Instant messenger for intranet. Able to log all the informations. Send/ receive emails. Make onise hwen new mesage comes up
what else.. hmm..

2. Some sort of group collaboration helper. (win2K)
Like.. to do list taht can be easily shared by everyone on the LAN. Something not based on web..tough,,.. because.. it would be harder for me to configure the server (me no programmer) ..like.. installing ASP coded scripts.. and there is no database here anyways..
Would be useful to have group carlendar. And so on and on.

It would be wonderful to have above softwares that can export datas into excel file fomats..
So, they can all be integrated into excel spreadsheet.. rather than all different stnadalone datas that are ont compatible to each other.

ICQ works well in an intranet, it logs all information and has built in support to send and check email, it "make onise" when a message comes in, and stores messages if a user is offline so they will get it when they next go online.

Give VCM a try, it's like a stripped down ICQ designed especially for LANs.

umm how does it work on a closed environment? Do the computers needed to be connected to internet all the time, or can I just install some sort of server software?

vcm doesn't need to be connected to the internet and there is no server, it just detects other computers on the network that are using it
