i know WMP v9 does....it's not the best but it works.

Not sure any such thing exists for the Windows platform.

To legally decode DVD video the producer must pay a licensing fee for each copy. You pay fees on physical DVD players in the same way.

WMP won't play DVD's unless you have codecs installed via another program.

Viper GTS

There is no free legal DVD player software, because, like ViperGTS said, the software manufacturer needs to purchase a license.

Creative's Playcenter plays DVDs great (that's what I use on the PC) - it comes with Liveware and that's a free download

You paid the licensing fee when you bought the card.

iirc you can download it with Liveware! 3.0 (I use the 3.0 update for my main comp when I formatted a month ago and it installed Playcenter). True, I guess you're "supposed" to own the card in order to download the drivers but they don't know that 🙂

Hmm, OK>

Thanks though. It's for a crappy old laptop...ironically, it has WMP9 on there...I just thought it didn't play DVDs b/c v7.1 doesn't. Thanks though. 🙂

hmmm, a search found a page with this info

Creative SoftDVD requires the Creative Playcenter software (included in the package below) to work. The Microsoft DirectX Media and Media Player has been ripped from this package. Should you need these software, get them from Microsoft for free.

Note 1 : You cannot use this player in conjunction with WinDVD, as they both use the same decoders and will interfere with each other

Note 2 - for SBLive owners : You must have LiveWare 3.0 installed to take advantage of the 4 speaker audio mode. Also, this software might not work unless you have Creative hardware (graphics card or sound card) installed.

but i believe that you can install the dvd decoder from that package then use a different player with the creative decoder
