In Summary..If Battlefield 2 had 128 players, I'd be super hooked.
Does anybody know of any rumored or upcomming FPS games for 128 players?
What company is going to push the limits? It needs to be done

Yeah I was going to say Joint Ops. There's only a few servers at a time with 64 players and the one server that plays larger maps and has a limit of 150 players. Usually 600-1000 players in total. I dont like the huge maps though... I'd like to see some 100 player Kutu Arms Market :)

even if a game did support that many players, i doubt there would be many servers running it. look at how much a 32 man server costs for say bf2. thats expensive. now imagine multiplying that by 4...

not to mention the lag from all those people as well.

BF2 is prolly capped at 64 beause of lag issues... but Joint Ops is a good game up to 150 players. Tends to be laggy though.

The 150 player JO servers are probably run by Novalogic. I played ok with 140 players with my old Barton + 9800 Pro rig. Certainly not as smooth as a 32player game but was fine for me. I just dont like the maps that are played on the 150player server, though some of the small ones are obviously complete chaos. A potential for a very fun game some of the time at least, so I'm glad they weant with such huge max players.

Can't believe ET:QW is only 24 players! :( I'm looking forward to that game and TF2 the most.. but I've always been more of a fan of a bigger game, like BF2 maps are large so I play the 50-64 player ones.

edit: Someone mentioned Far Cry before to me as like 128 players?? Or something a little less? But I haven't heard a damn thing in years about that game in regards to multiplayer, so I'm guessing it doesn't matter if the MP sucks or if it was just too laggy for large #s of players.

EDIT
oops,the maximum is 24 players:roll:

it's designed for 24-32 players, but you can make the limit what you want.

when I first saw games with large areas like bf2 i was really interested in it because of the go anywhere kind of gameplay. i thought it would make fro some awesome tactical scenarios, but then i realized it sucks because it takes forever to get anywhere and everyone is so small, you can't see or aim at them.

i like playing as a sniper, and all of these games suck ass for snipers because its so easy to locate them. if these games wanted to be "realistic" like they always claim, it would be extremely difficult to figure out where a sniper was. not to mention how mnay bullets a player can take before they die.

server rape.

as for snipers. well if they were realistic u'd use tanks and artilery to bring down all the buildings so there wouldn't be any snipers;)

True, but you have to strike a balance between realism and good gameplay. For instance, if BF2 snipers were like DoD: S snipers, they would rule hardcore since it's one-shot-one-kill (unless you hit arms or legs) in DoD. That would be too powerful in Battlefield 2 since the maps are so large... you'd pick off every guy in sight. In Day of Defeat it's not as bad since the maps are much smaller and there's a lot of places to counter a sniper.

What was that game where the scope would sort of sway back and forth slightly when trying to aim, and it would sway really bad if you were standing? I recall it was actually hard to snipe anythig, but a good sniper was unstoppable.

Well somebody needs to make a FPS with a diagnostic check...if your cpu doesn't pass, you can't even play, with a massive warning on the box thats reads 'DONT BUY UNLESS U have BLAH BLAH BLAH" ....and therefore limiting lag.
Those of us Die hard gamers with super connections would love it...
They need to push the limits and make others follow.....remember 6-8 ppl in starcraft used to be the limit?

I think the 64 player maps in BF2 are PERFECT for 128.
Just waiting for a company with balls to say, "Heres the new standard..hurry up"

A long time ago I found a Quake 2 server that had a crapload of people in a square room with railguns. Not sure how many though, it had to be at least 50. Maybe there is no limit with Quake?
