Looking for feedback on Razer Synapse

I'm in the market for a new gaming mouse. My old Razer/MS Habu has been a great mouse but is very old and dying. I've always liked Razer mice but I'm not sure I like this new Synapse cloud based account thing they have now that I've read about if you want to access to advanced mouse settings and requires internet connectivity. For a mouse? Not to mention the clause in the Synapse EULA that gives Razer the right to collect personal information about you and your system. The whole idea of having to create a Razer account and be connected to the internet to access advanced mouse features and configs just seems preposterous to me.

I definitely need something that is software configurable, has adjustable dpi buttons and can map buttons to keys, macros and such.

So is there a way to bypass this nonsense or should I be looking at Logitech or another brand?

Its certainly not a feature I care for. In addition Razer only have one mouse that is considered flawless (most have built in angle snapping and acceleration) so despite liking the shape I don't like their sensor choices. I have also had terrible quality issues with their mice in the past, the Razer mamba I had was atrocious and died very young (thankfully).

Haha I wouldn't call it irrational love. I have no qualms about switching to another brand and this internet connection requirement Synapse thing is definitely pushing me in that direction. Thanks for the feedback though.

I have a razer mouse and I despise synapse. Will never buy razer again unless they fix the issue overall.

Synapse is definitely some crappy software IMO, I simply can't imagine a scenario where I might think to myself....."Thank goodness I had my mouse settings saved to the cloud!" I've experienced it crashing on startup frequently as well, though the program closes out and can be relaunched without issue. Still though, I don't dislike it enough to not use a mouse I think I would like otherwise. It's more a situation of what's the point of doing this than this is horrible.

My Razer Deathadder 3.5G mouse is good, synapse is fine. Not to resource intensive, very little popups. And woah, you have a Habu? I have been looking all over for YEARS now for a Habu and Reclusa. I can get a Reclusa on eBay, but the Habu? To bad yours is dying

Actually it turned out the problem was I need to reinstall the razer config software and now it seems fine. I assumed there was some sort of internal problem going on because I couldn't get the switchable profiles to work. But yeah the Habu has been a great mouse and looks like I'm keeping it.

I would stick with a mouse that has the same sensor. Your old Habu uses the "S6018" The Copperhead also uses the "S6018"

Well the side button panel on this Habu broke. So I ended up getting the Logitech G500S. I really like it so far. The razer mice are nice but they lost a sale and customer due to their synapse nonsense, just not gonna buy into that.

i use razer orbweaver and synapse works flawlesly. But orbweaver isnt a mouse. More like a tiger

I'm sure it works okay, it's just the online requirement and Razer's privacy disclaimer in the EULA that rubs me the wrong way.

I've had a Naga since it was first released and still going strong. Now I also have a Naga Hex that I go back and forth it too. Have yet to find their mice lacking in build quality. Now synapse does suck but eh, I can live with it.

Ohh yeah also have an old Diamondback 3G that still works perfectly but gets almost no use.

I can't stand their software. It literally takes 20-30 seconds to change one bind for some reason, which was aggravating as hell when I was binding a WASD setup that could not be changed in a game. Setting up 20 binds took like 10 minutes.

My Mamba switches DPI by itself now too; and if I'm able to switch it back - roll the dice and see (rarely works, or takes minutes).

Then there's my hardware issues with them... I'm done with Razer.

The thing that strikes me as odd is that Synapse seems to be almost universally hated even by razer fans, yet they continue with it. If they ever go back to just standard setup software then I'll consider them when my G500s dies.

The software itself is pretty bad, but there is no reason at all to use it after the initial setup. If you want macros, use a much better scripting program like AHK. Mouse software shouldn't be a reason to disregard a mouse.

As much as I hate Razer, they have a very solid sensor in their current mice. If you are a super low sensitivity gamer, they are basically the best you can get even though some part of the mouse will inevitably fail within a month.

I'll also give them props for RazerComms sound processing. It filters out noise much better than Mumble while retaining almost all of the quality and low latency. Mumble still remains top dog in ideal conditions, but if your friends are in noisy environments, RazerComms is a definite improvement. Everything else about the software such as the UI is absolute trash.

Nothing about this should surprise you. It seems once a company gets an idea, no matter how bad, they will stumble through with it until the bitter end, customer be damned. Almost as if it's just because they don't want to admit they were wrong.
