Can't believe it's been nearly five years since I built a new comp (April '04). A few upgrades were made along the way, but the cpu wasn't top of the line even when I first built the system (Athlon 64 3500+, heh).

A comment before I list the system: I know the 1066DDR2 is overkill, but after a 40$ mail in rebate and another 10$ off on a combo deal with the power supply, it ended up being only 4$ more than the 800. No immediate plans for overclocking the system, but I might try it out sometime over the next few months...If the difference isn't worth the 4$, I'll drop to the 800 ;p

Anyways, here's the system I'm planning on building thanks to the other threads on these forums:

Planning on using the 512mb 8800GT from my old comp for the time being as I don't feel like dropping a couple hundred on a new video card. I'd rather not sell the 8800 either as it'll be reinstalled into the old comp in a couple years once I upgrade the rig from this thread. (The original 6600 will replace the video card in my old comp).

Everything else (monitor, keyboard, mouse) will also be used from my old comp, although I'll definitely be upgrading my monitor sometime soon.

As far as uses go, the rig'll primarily be used for gaming. The most graphics intesive being CoD4/5 at the moment. Other than that, the graphical capabilities of the rig won't be pushed all that much...although it'll be interesting to see how far Dwarf Fortress pushes the E8500, heh...

No plans at all for going SLI.

Budget is hard to say, but I'm getting what I listed above for 792$ with another 115$ more off of that from mail in rebates and I'm happy as hell to be building a new comp for that price.

Overclocking, again, isn't planned from the get go, but it's something I'm considering doing after a bit.

Building from the US and have stuck to AMD and nVidia for my last two comps, but I have no real brand preference.

When am I building it...well...let's just say the parts are already in the cart on newegg...just getting some last minute advice, heh...

Edit: Also, sticking with XP Pro for the time being. Will likely upgrade the OS when I upgrade the video card down the line.
