I currently use a 19 inch View Sonic purchased 3 years ago from my local Frys. As I watch the 17 inch LCDs slowly drop in price I have been waiting for them to hit the $250 price range. However, I recently saw (on this site maybe) a comment about how gamers prefer the standard older type monitor to the new LCDs. Is this a fact and, if so, why? The displays of the LCDs at the local stores are all super bright with gorgeous colors. So what's the problem? Is there a lag during game playing or is there some other issue? Also, when purchasing my current monitor it was recommended that you buy something with a 25 or less ***. Sorry but I don't remember what this number represented. Dot matrix? What are the minimum requirements on LCDs for good resolution? Frys has been running almost constantly now 17 inchers for around $279 after rebate. And yet I see other brands of the same size in the mid $400 range. What's lacking with the cheapo models beside a known brand name. Thanks for any info on this.

For a LCD you want to look for something with a 16ms or less response time. The Dell 2001FP is a 20" LCD with 16ms refresh and it is great for games. If you can afford the $700-$800 price tag that's the one I'd go for!
