Hey guys, I am buying a digital camera for my dad for his birthday. He has been using regular point and shoot film cameras up till now. He needs something that is easy to use and good for a wide range of things. He will not use any fancy features (he doesnt even own a computer), he will just be using it for the occasional picture taking of indoor events as well as outdoor moments. I was looking in the 150 price range and so far I have come up with these two cameras:

Sony Cybershot DSC-W220

and

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ10K

Could anyone either comment on the above or make another recommendation? Thanks!

the best piece of advice for buying a compact is to pick a budget and then get whatever canon, sony, or panasonic happens to catch your eye in the display case. spend the time you'd have spent agonizing over the very minor differences on reading the manual and learning to use the camera.

It's a present for his dad. He needs "something that is easy to use" and "he will not use any fancy features".

I'd suggest you go with a Canon, then decide if you want one with AA batteries (designated with a A in front of the model #) or one with a rechargeable proprietary battery. If the one with the prop. battery dies away from home, its not as easy to replace or recharge the battery.

But as ElFenix implies, theres not much difference between different models to get to worried about. I'd be more worried about what focal lengths it covers.
