Looking for DV Camcorder/Firewire setup

Expecting my first child in Nov. My wife and I would like to replace our old Camcorder with a new DV one that is firewire capable so we can transfer video to the PC and burn VCDs.

We would like a very good quality and SMALL unit. Also, what software/firewire card setup for the PC would people recommend. Quality is more important than price, but keeping it in a reasonable range (middle level for camcorder) would be preferable.

I hear JVC one is richely featured and small and more capable than sony's one.
I am not sure of the model but I recommand you going to google.com google.com site and typing in Dv JVC

rickr, they look like great options... the only thing that might stop me from getting one is the resolution... not as good as the sonys. pricewise, they are a great value.

I don't know about the resolution difference. I have a ZR10, and am very happy with it. The big selling point for me was the very compact size. I end up using it more since it is small enough to take places.

I upgraded from an 8mm, and it is also nice to be able to convert old movies to the digital format. If that is important to you, make sure you get a camcorder with analog inputs.
