Hello, i am looking forward to buy digital camera and have couple questions about it.

1. Can any digital cam be used as web cam or only creative pc-cam's?
2. Some cams limit video to 2 minutes can this be overide somehow when you use larger memory card?
3. Is there ~200$ cam which can record video in 640x480 or 800x600 and ~30 fps? Videos taken from cam's i yet sow in anandtech reviews are not very hi-fi, is there point at all to buy digi camera for video record?
4. Do i need more than 3 megapixels camera for consumer use?
5. Anything else i should know?

First of all, wrong forum :) Let me try to answer your questions with what little knowledge I have:

1) Yes, on two conditions: if the camera has a tv out and you have a tv tuner, then you can set up the camera through the tv tuner as a twain device and use it as a webcam. I don't know about the particular creative cameras you are a talking about.

2) Don't know.

3) I don't know of any camera which can go up to 800x600 at 30 fps. That's a lot to ask of a digital camera under $200. Besides, the video quality is mediocre and very webcam-ish. And YES, there is no point in buying a dig-cam for the sole purpose of making these crappy-looking videos.

4) No average use needs more than 3 megapixels of resolution. 3 mp is enough for a huge poster and how many times have you seen beginners printing off posters or having even needed to.

5) What's important in buying a digital camera is large lens aperture and a quality lens manufacturer. These things are what give you a better-looking picture than the average joe on the street. The vibrancy and liveliness in the photographs come from these two components of the camera.

Hope I've helped. For more information, can't beat this site: Digital Photography Review
