Looking for digital camera recommendation

I need a digital camera that is good for taking pictures up close. I will be taking pictures of things like circuit boards and they must be clear and detailed. I don't need any kind of video recording features. Also I'd like to spend <$300 and keep in mind I'll be shopping around for the best prices, so that's maybe something $400-$500 retail.

Normaly, I'd say one of the Cannon S30,40,45 line. But if they have any weakness it's with macro. Why not go to dpreview.com and read up some!

Canon PowerShot A60 unless you plan on PRINTING PICTURES 8x10 or larger then you should go for a 3MP or higher but good luck with a budget of $300.

Otherwise the Canon A60 is perfect.

I like my Nikon Coolpix 4300 digital camera. Small, compact and 4.1 megapixels

find a canona40 and get the addon lens to do super closeup macro shots. i may go this route. If i can find some good deals on add on lenses.

most consumer digital cameras have pretty good macro capability that should be enough for photographing motherboards.

however, the nikon coolpix 4500 stands out because of its optional ringflash. the ringflash should improve your close up photos a great deal, especially when you have limited light (i.e: inside a computer box).

i've never used the combo, but it seems to be fairly popular with dentists who need fairly cheap digital photography equipment.

i don't have a clue about the prices though.
