I know nothing about hiking gear and am wondering if someone can reccomend anything or point me to some good outdorsy sites. I want some good trekking poles for long hikes that are big enough for a tall (over 6') person, prefferably collapsable. My only requirement on the GPS device is that it report present elevation so I can track vertical mileage. So the cheaper the better.

if you're looking to buy equipment, check out rei.com and campmor.com.

If you're looking for advice on what equipment you'll need, or something to guide you in making some choices, you may want to pick up a book. I've got a pretty good one around here, but for the life of me I can't remember the title at the moment

Any particular reason that you're looking for 2 hiking poles? finding colapsible ones that are tall enough might be a problem, but it might be easier to find a single, wooden, treking pole that would be tall enough.

Can't help much with the GPS; I don't know that much about them, and have just started looking into them so that I could get one myself.
