I have an Antec KS-282 +PP303x PS. I want to try to get a little better airflow/cooling in my system. Currently I have 2 80mm and a FOP32-1 on my duron 700@950/Abit KT7.

Here is a couple of good pics of the case. I installed the 2 80mm fans as shown in the second pic, with the one next to the PS as an exhaust, the one on the bottom as an intake. I modified the case a little bit by cutting the metal in front of the intake and drilling holes on the plastic front. I think I may make the holes a little bigger (they are around the same size as the ones on the side of the case in pic 1).

Any thoughts on how to maximize my cooling? I have a 120mm and an 80mm fan that I can use if needs be. Not too sure on the specs though...

Thanks.

Looks like you have more than adequae cooling, no need to add more fans as it would just create more noise.

ok.

I probably should have mentioned that I am running about 46-48C under full load, processor temp, and my case temp is 23 C according to the thermistor on the mobo. I have serious doubts to the accuracy of the case temp because the thermistor is in the middle of the 'jet stream' from intake to exhaust.

Thanks.

if your looking to cool your system down i'll tell you what i did in list format:

1. drive to target
2. buy a small 6" radial house fan
3. drive home
4. get one of the sid panals of your case
4a.take off the front cover of your newly purchesed fan
5. measure out the diameter of the fan and CUT A HOLE
5a. *be sure to cut the hole over where your cpu is*
6. be sure to wear safty equipment at all times (i don't want to be sued)
7. drill holes where the screws go to the fan
8. put the panal back on your case
9. be happy that your cpu will never overheat again!:D

You know, in my lab at work there are giganic devices that generate huge amount of heat. The devices need daily addition of liquid nitrogen (good stuff!) in order to keep 'em cool. Maybe you can try some liquid nitrogen. :p

Your cooling sounds good. Your case temp is very good and your cpu is on par for a Duron at that speed.

one of my concerns is that when summer comes along, the room temp is going to be obviously higher. :( I want to try to maximize the cooling now to avoid problems later. Thanks guys. :)

Hi,
46-48 isn't too bad under full load, I would be happy at that temp. If your temp was around 55 or over for full load, its time to get worried and cool it down but as it is, it no big deal and not worth the hassle, but if you must, you could do a couple of things without major mods, get a slot fan underneath the video card, the antec slot fan is good, get that from onvia.com, also you can get a 5.25 slot fan from 3dcool.com. Besides these things others things need major mods, and the liquid nitrogen idea could work, I have NMR machines in my lab so we got tons of liquid nitro, could get some liquid helium but to expensive to mess around with. :)

i've seen smoke tests done that show that ducting helps, maybe you could build some ducting out of carboard or what ever to duct the air away from the out of the cpu fan to the outside of the case. and liquid nitro works good

hmm... a 23C(74F) ambient might not be as off as you think. For example, are there any other high-heat devices in your case?

And what is your room temp like?

Also, your cpu temps readings are right at where your core should be at your speed.

My room temp is typically in the high 60's during the winter months, probably high 70's summer if not a little bit higher. As for other parts in the system:

Duron700@950, 1.85v FOP32-1 on an Abit KT7
128MB PC133 (Infineon chips)
Radeon 32MB DDR retail (w/ standard fan)
SB Live Platinum x/ live drive 1
Creative DVD
Sony CD-R/RW
WD 20.5 GB HD ATA66 7200RPM
2 10/100 Nics (Linksys and an Asante)
300W PS (PP303x)
all this inside the Antec KS282. :)

I currently have an Antec slot cooler at the bottom of the case as an intake, just to mix up the air in the PCI slot area. I wouln't be opposed to moving it though if it would help out. slot 1 is available if I need it... Unforunately, a 5.25" cooler won't fit. all the 5.25" bays are full...

I am using the pink goop that came with the FOP32 rather than some compound. If I ever have to reinstall the CPU, I will put some HS compound on it.

I am not against modding the case if needs be. I have a 12cm fan and an 8cm fan around and I may even have a Gamma 28 lying around somewhere. I was toying with the idea of adding a blow hole (the 12cm) and maybe an intake on the side (8cm) near the PCI slots... Anyway, all suggestions or input are appreciated. Thanks.
