Looking for coolers that fit in an Antec 900

Hey all,

First time builder. Scoping the forums to see what kind of cooler to throw onto my proc. I've obviously never done it before, so I am looking for something that:
1) fits in my case & mobo
2) is not too difficult to install
3) is relatively quiet
4) <$50, although cheaper is better 😉

I plan on doing mid level or maybe a little higher Oc'ing. Also, does the brand/type of thermal paste make a difference?

Here is my rig:
Antec 900
Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
E8500

Here are the two that I am looking at, but don't know if there is anything better out there:

1) Xigmatek HDT s1283

2) Artic Cooler Freezing 7 Pro

Thanks in advance!

The Xigmatek is best bang/buck, but Tuniq Tower, Nirvana 120, Thermalright 120 Extreme all perform as well or, in the case of the thermalright, better.

Tuniq 120, TRUE and TT Big Typhoon all fit in a 900, however, if you want to use the side intake fan you may have to clip off the inside mounting corner of the fan. Snips or a dremel/jigsaw make short work of the plastic.

only thing loud about the S-1283 is its fan, which imo isnt even that loud to begin with. if you dont like the fan on these 120mm fan coolers, just replace it. you shouldnt judge the cooler based on how loud the stock fan is unless it needs said fan to operate well

Pardon my naivete as this is the first time I have done this, but does the s1283 need a fan to work effectively?...or is it a matter of unhooking the fan, looking at your temps, and then deciding if it is needed? If fanless is a legit option, then the Vendettas should be highly ranked as well, correct?
