Folks, I'm looking for some parts for a Presario 1200 Laptop and have the part numbers. I'm just not real keen on the price quotes I've received so far. This is what I've been able to dig up so far:

Voltage Converter - part # 352-891-001 $70.00 or $43.00
Motherboard - part # 169607-001 $520.00 or $445.00 or $250.00
CPU K6-2/500Mhz - part # 173534-001 $230.00 or $153.00 or $136.00

Ain't that crazy?! If anyone can recommend a vendor that is not interested in raping the customer I'd appreciate that! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.;)

I agree with you whole-heartedly! I'm just glad it's not my lappy! It actually belongs to a friend. For what those folks are asking for replacement parts he'd be better off buying a new one!:disgust:

Compaq is and has always been the king of making everything in their systems proprietary, crappy and overpriced just so that you would be stuck going to them for replacements. I would not buy any Compaq PC (except maybe iPaq which is just so damn sweet).

The CPU will look like a standard AMD K6, but may run at a lower voltage. Of course some manufacturers (like Compaq and Winbook) have used standard desktop processors in their laptops so you would have to pull the CPU and see what voltage it is spec'd for.
By the way, who determined that you need ALL those parts? It looks to me like the whole system is getting replaced. Yes, sometimes entire systems get taken out at once, but a lot of times it is a lousy tech who doesn't have parts to test with and just lists every possibility.
