Folks,

I hope this is the correct place for this thread...

I want to buy a new, small laptop and saw this one in Best Buy today for $1150. It has AMD X2 CPU, 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, CD/DVD-RW, swiveling screen with stylus writing and weighs 4 pounds. My old one is an 13" Averatec that has slowed up drastically over 3 years even with house cleaning. It never was fast when it was new, with an older AMD chip.

My major concern is that HP went through a lot of turmoil over the past few years and I'm wondering if anyone out there has a good - nay, excellent - word for them and this laptop...

Thanks

There have been a lot of good things said about the tx2000z, especially about its active digitalizer. Though I should mention, you could probably get a better deal with a Slickdeal coupon or something (I know there were 30% off coupons and I believe a $500 off $1300 coupon recently). In any case, it doesn't seem like such a bad price for a decent laptop. What are you going to be using it for? The active digitalizer in the tx2000z means its great for taking notes.

Aflac,

Thanks for the comments. I found out it was a tx1410us instead of the tx2000z. Are you aware of that version and is it much different from the 2000?

I plan to use this for Word, Excel, music, video encoding would be the most demanding task. I've never used a machine for taking notes, but that would be a good way to set up an outline or such, I would think. The stylus could also be used instead of a mouse, couldn't it?

I found it's also available at Office Depot for $1186 with $185 in MIRs, making it $999.99 before taxes. Better deal than Best Buy in the long run...

Not familiar with Slickdeal, but will go there next, see what they have.

Thanks again, Noel

EDIT: Went to Slickdeal.com, didn't look like what you were telling me about... Different site, maybe?
