A friend of my dad's has an 1899 silver US penny. I haven't seen it but from the description that I got it's the size of today's nickel, has a large A on one side, and a head of a woman, possibly a queen, on the other.

Supposedly someone wants to give the guy $1,000 for the penny, but apparently it's worth more than that. If anyone has any information on this particular item or has some websites I could check out and find this information on my own I'd appreciate you sharing it with me.

Do NOT clean it if it is dirty.

If it is as you say and is that rare then I would recommend sending it in to a professional grading service and having it "slabbed".
