I've been trying to find a affordable hosting solution in the Boston Area for CS:S and Ventrilo Servers. I'm not looking to resell, I'd be the end user of all servers. Everywhere I look, the prices have started ~$200, which isn't affordable at the moment. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be happy for them.

To me , the price for a dedicated CSS server just isnt worth it. Youll need at least 1mb up for a 24 man pub , and even then youll pick up some lag. And since you are located in a major area, youll be lucky to find anything for ~150/month for 1mb up. Thats if youre colocating, meaning its only the connection. If you plan to run a dedicated server ,youre looking to spend much more. If you want to run more than 1 server , expect to pay much much more. To setup multiple CSS servers, youll either need serious cash or adequate donations.

In gaming, the price of renting and risking being on on overcrowded box is nothing compared to the price of your own server. If you want to test the waters , find a young gaming company with a good connection and room to spare. and use them for a while.

My advice is to rent out a box for a month , see how many people come play and then decide whether its a good idea to spend more money on larger operations.
