Looking for Chess program that allows custom board setup

I have a huge book (this one) on Chess that has Mate-In-1 and Mate-In-2 board settings.

I am trying to teach my son Chess and this technique has proved quite useful.

But the board configuration in the book are hard to read ... and we have to manually set up a chess board for each play.

Would be nice to have a chess program (freeware would be nice) that allows you to set up a board ... or even better comes with a database of classic board settings like in the book.

TIA

Download Scid. It's free. You can setup your own board positions or import PGN/FEN from other games.

Download all of these PGNs. These are from Reinfeld's famous book, and they include all of the positions for tactical positions, including mate-in-1 exercises.

That's it. All free. You could even download a free analysis engine like Scidlet, Shredder's free version or others. This would help with the more complicated positions.
