Can someone recommend a CHEAP video card (with DVI-D) for an old machine (AGP 2x or PCI slots only) that will definitely support the widescreen 1440x900 resolution of my new cheap widescreen monitor? This machine is only for internet browsing and word processing, so the cheaper the better. Current video card doesn't support any 16:9 formats.

THANKS

chief...have you tried going to a site like Newegg and put in just the info you rquire, like DVI and AGP and let it run all the cards for you?...you'll get ATI & nVidia brands if you're indifferent. Also, sort it by lowest price (i did this and found cards in the $20 range)...try it.

Yes, I tried this.... but I'm not sure which cards support 1440x900 and they don't specify the supported resolutions on the newegg pages.

Try following the link on the newegg details page to the manufacturer's website. A PCI nvidia 6200 or 5200 seems more likely to offer widescreen than a 4mx or any AGP card.
