Sometimes I can't make it to the gym so I'd like to buy a set of dumbbells.

I never realized how expensive dumbbells are. Where is the cheapest place to shop for them? Store prices seem just as high as online+shipping...unless there is a great place I haven't found yet.

Ya, they are pretty expensive. It's about $0.75-$1 per pound where I am. Humping them home without a car is the real challenge. I made two trips with a backpack when I got my 25 pounders. Backpack really wasn't made for that.

Wal-mart is actually a pretty good place.

I also got a decent set of resistance bands from Walmart, 3 tubes plus handles for $15. I'm not sure if they would be enough resistance for you, but they are a potentially cheap alternative.

There's a 25% off one item coupon going on at sporthauthority. Good online and B&M. You could pick up weights individually or pick up a set. 25% off is pretty decent. Just google for the coupon.

If you have a store in your area that sells gym equipment, for like a gym, not a normal retail store, the prices on dumbbells/weights are usually pretty cheap. That's my suggestion anyways.

PIAS has a lot of new stuff anyway. My entire weight set was new bought from them.
