Looking for cars for other people is tough.

Trying to find something for my fiancee. She wants something small, easy to drive, attractive looking, and reliable. I also dont want to spend much more than $5k if I can help it.... I just can't even think of any models of cars that I even want to consider. Looking at early 90s MR2s right now on autotrader, but I'd really rather get something from 95-98 than 91-93.

Actually, those early non-turbo MR-2's are very reliable (the turbos are reliable too, but the turbos tend to be more abused). From what I've read, a lot of the running gear for the MR-2 was taken from heavier cars, so the MR-2 is pretty over-built. In a word, "solid".

As an ex-mechanic, people ask me all the time what they should buy. But I don't bother suggesting cars for friends/family any more.

You just can't win.

95-98 for $5k?

Civic-ville baby
Even a Neon...

I'm guessing she wants something performance minded since you mention the MR-2...what about an older 240SX (S13's, maybe even an S14...not quite the years you want though).

There are plenty of cars from those years for about $5k, just none that she likes. I don't want a neon, and she doesn't want another civic....

She doesn't want anything. She only likes cars that cost like $40k+, everything else she looks at and basically goes "blah - boring". So I have to come up with something I think she might like.

How about a Hyundai Tiberon? Those have a pretty decent/unique appearance, won't cost a fortune, and are pretty reliable.

SENTRA. Doesn't matter what year - if it's been maintained right, it'll last for a looooong time.
