We have a gun show coming up this weekend and I was looking for advice on purchasing an SKS rifle. I've done a little research and know about the different makes (Yugo/chinese etc)

could anyone give me advice on which one to buy and what I should be paying?

Buy an AK47, easier to clean service and get parts for. If I recall they use the same or similar ammunition too.

The Yugo M59/66 (grenade launcher model) should be the most economical and plentiful in the 120 to 160 range depending on condition. The only thing that can be a slight issue with these is the gas cut off valve for the launcher leaking and causing a cycling problem but this doesn't happen a lot and is pretty easily fixed.

Chinese and Russian SKSs are usually very overpriced for what they are unless you are a collector.

Stay away from the SKS's just get an AK.

Most of the Chinese SKS's that we get here are pure garbage.

Since the executive ban on imported Chinese weapons was put into effect in the 90s. Pushed prices up to 250-300ish range now on these rifles. The prices on the Russians have only been going up as well (not worth it unless you are a collector).

The Yugos are much better quality than the Chinese rifles as well. My Norinco SKS looks like a 8 year old with palsy did the machine work.
