I was looking around at microcenter today, while checking out the open box stuff I saw an Acer 8432a cdrw marked down to $179.00 , the sealed boxes on the shelf were $229.00 with $20.00 instant rebate and $10.00 mail in rebate, bringing them down to $199.00, I got them to give me both the instant and mail in rebates at the checkout, so, this open box unit cost $149.00 , when I got to the car I opened it up to check things out and found a return receipt from yesterday (07/20/2000) and the complaint was &quot;item wasnt working too well&quot; 😀

Oh, yeah, how about this, I got it home and installed it and when I opened the tray to try it out there was already a disc in there, not a cdr-w but a

&quot;Learn key&quot; Internet information server 4.0 Microsoft certification exam no. 70-87 Microsoft certified solution provider&quot; I havent checked it out yet, is it anything special?

I burned two cd's so far, one was 450mb of download backups, the other was an hour long music cd, both went without a hitch.

Do any of you have this drive? are there any morphing proggies for it? 🙂

If you have any tips or advice about this drive I would appreciate it, its my first burner 😛

if it can burn fine, continue...

take a look at the front of the drive, and see if it looks the same as any other drive. if it does, it means it came out of the same factory as that drive.

my first burner was a ricoh 7040a, and it had the same front as others, including one labeled COMPUSA, and well... 😛 of course I the Compusa model months after i bought the drive. It still burns.

but i have a new plextor. 😀

since the drive is IDE, don't go doing anything nuts while burning.

Morphing, like the program that turned some brand of 4x cdrw into a 6x.

Do you know about that Internet information server cd? what is it? I still havent checked it out.

Its just a training thing, no programs on it, it could be interesting to go through it, seems to be a little outdated, it mentions something about &quot;when NT5 comes out&quot; and &quot;IE4.0 is a requirement for IIS&quot;

I did learn something from it 🙂 I learned how to ban IP addresses from accessing a web site 😀

apparently it doesnt like compusa media (gold face/74min-650mb) I had a lot of trouble with them, but no problems with Memorex (gold face/74min-650mb)

Lotsa burns with the memorex and no problems at all, the compusa stuff causes lots of problems, blue screens, coasters, no disk present, at first all I had was the compusa media and it was making me think there was something wrong with the drive.
