I want to use a headset as well as my optical desktop elite keyboard and mouse, but Microsoft's BT stack just doesn't do A2DP which my headset needs. Can't figure out how to update the driver though wiki says that some April 2007 patch fixed the profiles.
So now I'm looking to fix the problem with hardware, but from what I've read the problem is that many bt dongles won't work with the keyboard and mouse profile.

If you have any suggestions on how to fix this problem or what to buy please let me know.

Yet another reason why I don't MS hardware as a rule. I almost fell into the same pit that you did. One of the big reasons for me going with a bluetooth set was for it to be an access point to sync my smartphone. Luckily I came across others with those issues before I bought it, I now have an Logitech MX5000 set. There is no reason that MS should have crippled the bluetooth dongle like that. Once the word spread you would think they release a new driver/firmware that would rectify the issues or allow the KB/Mouse to work with other dongles. But it is MS so I wouldn't count on it. Can you run two bluetooth dongles at once? You may try that. I know it is not the most elegant solution, even if it works at all but you might give it a shot. My local wallyworld carries them and if it doesn't work they have a pretty liberal return policy.
