Looking for Blu-Ray player recommendations

My 2nd Sony player has shit the bed so I'm completely finished with Sony products.

I also don't want to spend the money on an Oppo.

So now that those 2 are options are out of the picture, I'm looking for some recommendations.

I had one of the mid/higher end Sony players that were like $90 or something when I got them, so that is the type of price range I'm looking for. Right now I'm just using my PS4 to watch movies, however I want something that loads up quicker and will actually display the sound that I'm using on the receiver, both of which my Sony players were.

I'm not really interested in any higher end bluray features, I basically just need it to work and display a good picture and let me use HD audio in my setup. That's the reason I'm not really interested in the Oppo just becaus I think it's overkill for what I am looking for.

Having one that may also have apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime would also be a plus so that I can use those without having to load up my consoles.

So anyone have any recommendations? Thanks.
 
Just get a cheap player. At $60-100 there's really very little difference between BD players. They don't decode anything, they just pass along the digital signal to your receiver. Talk to a salesman at an AV store and get one that's reliable. If you want good Netflix or Amazon Prime just get a Roku too. It'll be far less laggy and just a better experience than trying to go through a BD player.
 
I have an old Panasonic that has worked flawlessly for a long time. Now I just use the apps built on my TV and have a UHD Blu-Ray player. I'm not sure of the current 1080p Blu-Ray players' feature set. It may be better to get a cheap Blu-Ray player that does the basics and then a Roku or similar box for the apps. There are new Roku models coming out with 4k HDR support for Netflix and Amazon in the not too distant future.
 
Yeah I don't care about 4K stuff. I think for streaming Netflix, HBO Go, and Amazon Prime I'll just stick to using PS4 for the time being if I can't find a Bluray player that doesn't support them. I know HBO Go is the one app that a lot of smart players don't really have on them, but I primarily just use that for GoT and SV which is only like 10 weeks out of the year.
 
The updated Xbox One with UltraHD Bluray support is looking pretty good for the money. Plus apps & games!
 
I already have an Xbox One and watching movies on it is worse than watching them on PS4. I don't want to use a console as a primary Bluray player at all.

I agree. I prefer the PS4 over the Xbox One for br playback and both suck. Either of my standalone br players provide a much better picture.
 
I was going to recommend the ~$100 Sony BD player that I have, but I guess that is a non-starter. 😀

Honestly, I haven't used it that much in the year since I have had it, as media watching has dropped significantly compared to streaming. It does have all of those streaming apps, but the player is slow as balls to load.
