i know this may not be the optimum price range for a high end sub, but it's a small room.

it'll be getting signal from an onkyo 605
the rest of the 5 spkrs are a cheap yamaha 5.1 box set. i may upgrade the other 5 spkrs later, maybe not...

i was looking at this Klipsch KSW-10 but i'm not sure if there's something better that i'm missing.

and yeah, it can't be taller than 16" or it won't fit under the AV shelves.
edit: i don't mind laying it on it's side to allow for more choices.

thanks

Klipsch makes good speakers, but their subs are generally just decent.

The BIC H-100 is the best sub in that price range, but its 17" tall. Sure you can't make it fit?

If you're willing to turn a sub on its side, then you'd have a lot more options as long as you're not limited by width.

YES, i don't care about laying it on it's side. but that sub you linked looks like it's out of my price range. or do you know where to pick it up within my range?

btw, here's my setup: Text so you can see how it will need to fit. the other 2 subs will go away.

The BIC H-100 is cheaper on ebay, ~$250 shipped IIRC. I think some people have had success making them offers for $200 + shipping.

Did you take a look at the subwoofer section in the sticky thread?

The BIC from ebay, the Dayton subs from Partsexpress, and the AV123 X-Sub are all in that pricerange.

yes, i looked it over, but somehow overlooked the BIC H-100. does anyone know if it's got line lever/LFE connections on the rear. i would assume it does, but can't find any specs or images showing it.

thanks for all the tips guys. i'm headed in the right direction. i'm really liking this H-100.

Yes, it has an LFE input on it.

Here's the manual if you want to check it out:

Getting this sub will likely make you want to upgrade your other speakers though. It'll probably overpower them. Not in a bad way really, but in a "I want more sound from the rest of the set now" kind of way.

I'd be a little scared about having a large magnet sitting right under my tivo box (magnets + HD = bad).

But that's just me.

My current sub has a 20 pound magnet in it...when I set the driver down on the workbench during my cabinet build it was pulling screwdrivers, wrenches and various other metal object from over 6" away to it.

The lowest they'll go is $248 shipped (trust me, I know this) these days, so you did fine.

Late last year you could get them cheaper but then they started getting popular so the going rate went up.

Still, for $250 shipped you can't complain. Its a solid subwoofer.

i'll keep that in mind. since this sub is over 18" long it'll be sticking out a ways to one side. i'll be sure to keep that crappy sony BD player in between them :D

to chime in...

the BIC is sweet, I have one in my setup and it blows me away at volume 4/10, lol

If you e-mail the guy from acoustic sound design he can hook you up with it for 250 shipped. The e-mail is info@acousticsounddesign.com, say you heard about buying it from him on the avsforum :)

Acousticsounddesign is one of the 2 main e-bay sellers from this. Though you can knock some of the price out dealing with the guy directly. He ships from Las Vegas and I placed my order with him the same day as an Amazon order and he beat them by a day, lol. As I mentioned, I learned about him from the BIC H-100 thread at AVSforum, which is why I suggest mentioning thats where you heard from him too.

I have the AV123 x-sub and I can vouch for its awesomeness. It doesn't shake the room though (in my case that's not necessarily a bad thing given I live in an apartment).

Yeah, those are nice subs as well. Great for all-around use. I'm considering getting one for my PC setup.

For $159 there's a sub called the "scamp-10" which was designed by Mark Seaton (same guy who designed AV123's MFW-15 and the X-sub).

http://tweakcityaudio.com/forum/

Right now there is no official venue to perchase it other than PMing Craig Chase (the owner--also known as Craigsub from the avsforum). According to him the Scamp-10 is superior to the X-sub for music (lower cycle delay) with similar extension.

Yeah they were judging interest for their first order order wave which relied entirely (apparently) avs forum members and they sold out. The initial release was just a week ago I believe so they should have their website up for official orders in a few weeks.

They've also got some other awesome products like a 25Wx2 (4ohms) integrated amp for $129, also includes a 100 crossover with a sub-woofer pre-out. it's called the X-19 "Gizmo." A great compeitor for $140 Trends Audio amp. Provides some more power and features.

They've got a $179 bookshelf too called the "WAF-1" which I guess is fill the void where the old $199 X-LS was (now the X-LS Encore is ~$350)

the BIC H-100 showed up today. man that was fast shipping, impressive.

the sub sounds better than what i had, and i'm very happy with it's value/performance. i'll have to give it a little more time to get a good feel for how it performs. i only had a few minutes with it today, was a bit busy with other stuff.

thanks again for the guidance with this purchase everyone.
