hello

well i'm looking to get a new laptop and i'm pretty sure i know what i want. I'm thinking of getting the top of the line acer aspire. I'm wondering if there are any other models out there that i have overlooked that would give better performance for my money. I would like to spend around 3000 canadian.

a fast processor is a given. at least 2.0 ghz
at lleast 1 GB of RAM
must be a 17'' display, with a powerful GPU (X700, GO 6800 or better)
at least a 100 GB hard drive
USB and firewire
DVD / CD-RW combo drive
good batter life woudl be nice, but not super necessary.
WIfi

any other suggestions? I was thinking dell, but they are too pricy for the same specs as teh aspire.

dells are too expensive unless you get a good coupon (which i never do).

an acer for $2900, is comparable to the XPS configure at abou $3400

Great! Buy the Acer. Seems like you made up your mind before asking the question. :)

howso?

in my original post, i made reference to the dell laptops and siad they were too expensive. My reply was simply made to show that i have already considered dell laptops adn don't feel that's the way to go.

My question is, is there anything other than the acer on the market with similar specs, that isn't a huge boost in price? the only thing i can find is an HP pavillion.

I actually got that link from selecting Gaming on the main dell.ca homepage. I think it happens a lot on dell.ca and dell.com, that depending on where you enter, there can be several different prices for the same product at any given time.
