Been hanging on the periphery for a long time and getting a tid bit here/there... In general, it seems people have made the following generalization about the OS:

A) It's about like Win 7 or slightly better performance wise for games.

B) It's loaded with Spyware (which can be disabled)

C) It's mature enough to now jump in without being to much of a beta tester...

Questions:

1) When is the last day that it will be offered as free?

2) What makes it better/faster for games than Win 7?

1. Supposedly July 29, 2016 but it's anyone's guess if they're going to continue giving it for free.

2. Benchmarks I've seen don't really show major improvement for gaming. You can find comparisons online with a simple search.

If you want to try it on your system, clone the drive or make an image of your OS to an external/internal drive. Upgrade or clean install Windows 10. Revert back if needed.

Yeah, pretty muc what MustISO said, I would clone you current system, store that away someplace, then do a clean upgrade to windows 10, use the key that you used to install win 7/8 with.
Then, once you run win 10, and it activates (make sure it activates!), then, you can just restore your old OS if you want.

For the games, if you are looking at pre DX12 games, then, it might be slightly faster. But, DX12 is a whole new ballgame. That is tons faster than what people have seen in the past for DX. So, win10 is more future proof for games.
