long story short i bought this off of new egg because it was the most economical option that had decent ratings and support for dd-wrt. i even double checked the reviews and saw one as early as 11 months ago that stated they had no problems running dd-wrt. fast forward and the package arrives today and of course this router is a v2 and dd-wrt only supports v1. i double checked newegg and there is no indicator about different versions just to be sure. so before i return this i just thought i'd reach out to the community see if anyone has any ideas. to be specific what i'm trying to accomplish is to bridge this router to another wireless signal. i've done it before with dd-wrt and a linksys 54gl. i should have just shelled out the extra $ and bought another one of those. *sigh*

thanks for the tip, yeah i was looking into tomato which i didn't want to try because i've never used it before and yeah I found a working version of dd-wrt. for future reference if anyone ever experiences this problem do not go by dd-wrt's router database. i don't know if it's outdated or wtf but from what i've been reading there are many different routers that have misleading entries on there.

Yeah, their database is always outdated. The forums are always where you should get your information for DD-WRT. In most cases, you will almost never want to be using stock builds, but custom ones like KONG or BS, which are designed around specific chip manufacturers.
