Trying to find what I'm sure is a very old thread, possibly 2-3 years old. Someone had set up a water cooling system that had pipe running outside their house, taking advantage of the nice cool winter temps. Anyone remember that thread? I would love to take a look at the thread and the pics again. Realize this is a longshot but doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks guys :)

I think I've seen this. I have no idea where to look though. Someone probably bookmarked it somewhere.

Did the search function not turn anything up?

How long does the anandtech forum save threads for, anyway?

i think what your thinkn about is a bomb reservoir. A beer keg which is burried deep below the freezing line in the soil. And then the water is pumped up to your computer and back down.

Umm... Your better off posting this question in the case and cooling section. Not the CPU and Overclocking section.

No I think there was a thread when somebody did keep a radiator outside, but the radiator froze the water completely and then there were problems. I might be thinking of another thread.

Just use pure ethlyene glycol for that sort of a setup, then it won't freeze. Otherwise, you're going to be having a bad sort of fun in the winter.

I pity the poor idiot that tried pure glycol in a freezing environment. Well, I guess as long as the environment never gets below 8F.....pure glycol freezes below +8F.........which is why you NEED to add water to glycol to create a mixture. The most effective is around a 60/40 mix....glycol to water......

Pure ethlyene glycol DOES FREEZE.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did search for it first myself, think it is gone for good.

He did not use a beer keg, just ran a regular garden hose outside. It was buried maybe 3 inches below the surface. Don't recall him having any problems, but I could be mistaken. Might as well let this thread die, but thanks again for your responses and insights.
