Looking for an InkJet Printer that does it all

I currently have an HP DeskJet 1220cxi, but it just doesn't cut it anymore. I am seeking an inkjet that does well on photos and standard color and B&W printing. A plus would be a printer that also will print on CDs/DVDs and do T-shirt transfers for my wife's many art projects. I already have a good scanner (Canon CanoScan 8000f) and WinFax Pro 10, so an "all-in-one" is not really necessary. From what I can glean from research on printers for these three basic functions, the "best" printers in each category are not the best printers in the other two. While the volume of business letters and similar projects is not large, the print quality needs to be at least good (on a poor, fair, good, excellent scale). My wife is into art projects and we're planning on purchasing a digital camera soon, so a good to excellent photo printer is also needed.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I'd say use a Canon from the 900 series. The only thing you don't get from them is printing directly to CD media. Everything else is to your likings, including the ink cost (six separate ink tanks!).

My apologies. Although Peripherals is clearly the correct forum, most users only frequent General Hardware or ATOT and never seem to get down to the bottom end of the forums list.

Thanks to Peter in this forum and PCman83 in General Hardware for their responses.

By the way Corky-g, do you have any thoughts on my printer question?

Go with the Epson R300. It prints out great photo's and can also print images/text ontop printable CD's and DVD's. It also has a built in Memory card reader and USB port for your future digital camera, and can print directly from either of those routes.

Concur today with Epson. I use a very reliable H-P 990cxi. It has been a terrific workhorse, but is hard to find these days.

Best Photo printer is a Canon i960.

Because it has only one small black cartridge it may not be the best for a lot of text printing.

The Canon i860 with one small and one large black cartridge may be a better compromise. Prints photos extremely well even though it may be a tad under the 6 color i960 on photos.

If you have to print right on a CD you would have to settle for a Epson.

In any case, never settle on an HP inkjet or you'll be in for a big surprise when you replace the cartridges a couple times...a big hole in your pocket.
