Hi guys.

I want to buy it before new years. Ideally I need the following.

1. compatability with cheap, 3rd party ink
2. wi-fi
3. flatbed scanner

Ideally, I would want to load paper through top not tray, since I will be using it for various thickness paper, tray will jam.

I don't care for the brand, just reliable would be wanted. Price, sub $100

I'd appriciate if you could post model #'s/reviews/anything else.

Thanks!

Without a doubt a Brother MFC series printer. I personally recommend the 495CW which is a slightly over budget but would also suit your needs.

+ Uses 4 cartridges so you only need to replace the ones you empty (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow)

+ Swiftink sells all 4 for a mere $16 and they last quite a while

+ Flatbed scanner is a good unit

+ Wi-fi with compatibility for all "quick setup" formats or by manually putting in information and can use WEP, WPA 1, or WPA 2.

My *only* complaint is I wish the paper tray held more (100 sheets). I've purchased two (one for the girlfriend and one for the parents) and both are still kicking strong without any issues, and again if anything ink is very cheap for them and lasts quite a while.

is it top loaded or only tray? I use thermal labels and they are quite thick and didn't work in couple that I tried.

Unfortunately only tray, but I've never had any trouble loading labels in when I do envelopes. But those aren't terribly thick either. I'm afraid in the end I can't answer your question.
