Looking for an inexpensive LOW PROFILE PCIExpress video card that is fanless

Anyone have any recommendations?

NewEgg shows tons of "low profile" video cards, but not many with low-profile brackets! What good are they?!

They do show a Jaton that looks perfect, except a common complaint seems to be noisy/failing fans. Nothing irks me more than a fan that fails or gets noisey on a video card, so I'm looking for something fanless if possible.

This is just for office type work, no games.

Thanks!

Get out of the consumer bracket and you'll find it really quick. :p

If you don't even need Aero/Beryl features, you can probably score a Quadro NVS 285 for a few bucks on eBay. There's some others, but that's the likely winner for you - cheap, fanless, and dual-DVI capable.

Edit - FireMV 2200 might be a good choice for you too, it's the same core as the X300.

There's always the OEM market, but you'll have a hard time finding a fanless low-profile card in PCIe these days. I know there's an AOpen (I think) fanless 6600 vanilla in PCIe, but it apparently has some serious overheating issues.

And low-profile = price premium. Just something you'll have to get used to.

Cheap = $50 - $90.

I'd like Aero features.

I found an MSI with an HDMI and DVI port, includes LP bracket, for $80 or so.

I'll have to get an HDMI to DVI cable to hook to my monitor, but I think that should work out for me....

Core, specs, link? That sounds a lot better than any of the workstation cards.

Whoa, digital audio passthrough feature for HDMI? :Q Just found a new winner for "Best Low-Profile HTPC card."

That'll also return better performance than either of the workstation cards listed above. Think that's your best shot right there. A 7300GS is in no way a 3D screamer, but it'll do Aero just fine.

Quick question: under specifications, it says "NVIDIA PureVideo Technology". I thought only 7600GT and above were allowed to have hardware video acceleration?

:Q indeed! the 7300GS is quote good for this role. and audio passthrough too? i wonder, does it have the HDCP chip to enable it to play blu-ray/hd-dvd? if so, this would be even better! no need to hack the content to work even though you bought it legally!
