Looking for an inexpensive laser printer--Suggestions--

The Brother's are actually LED printers, not laser.
The SuperScript 870 is very nice, and uses standard FPM SIMMs to upgrade. Unfortunately, the network option kit typically costs more than the printer.

Where did you read that Brother printers are LED Diesel? Not that it really makes that much of a difference, but Brother and everyone else call them laser printers. I've never used the NEC printer so I can't and won't make any comparisons, but the 1240 is the fastest printer I've used in the price range we are talking about. Text looked nice. I didn't do any picture printing, so won't comment on that either. PC World rated the 1240 the number one SOHO laser where as the NEC didn't even make the list:

Doh! Totally brain farted! The Brothers do appear to be lasers.
I was thinking of another brand. Sorry.

I have used some of the Brother's in the past. Nice, but not overwhelming.
The NEC is a model that's still popular after about 4 years in service. When it first came out, it made pretty much everyone's #1 SOHO printer. There's also a rebate on the NEC, which brings the price even lower.
