I'm looking for an editor that would be just like notepad, but with context highlighting. I don't want it to reformat my code or anything: just a plain text editor with html/css context highlighting. Anyone know of such a thing? Thanks.

I'd say do a search but who knows if you'll find anything since the search doesn't work very well. Anyway, I use PSPad.

Notepad++ is another good one. Does syntax highlighting for a ton of languages (including HTML), has dozens of cool features and power tools, is free, etc.

crimson editor is also free and works good for html & css - only problem I saw with it was that embedded css wont be hightlighted - but then other editors with highlighting dont either. But if your css is a seperate file, then it will highlight it It supports multiple files open at once and you can find and replace across several files at once - handy for editing multiple pages

You're going to get a lot of suggestions. Everyone has their favorite full-featured text editor (and some prefer not-so-full-featured editors  ). Most people use exactly one text editor before arriving at their favorite, because there are so many that are very good. Ignore all of those people. Listen to me. I know the one that is the best. EditPlus. Granted, I haven't spent extensive time with any other text editor. I've spent a bit of time with some others... but I digress. EditPlus is great. In addition to syntax highlighting and a very powerful find and replace feature (including regular expressions), it also has built-in FTP (unfortunately not SCP though). There are syntax files available for just about every language.

I do the majority of my work in dreamweaver, but EditPad Pro is my quick and dirty editor. Lots of handy features.

Very powerful.

I used to use this when I was maintaining some webpages regularly. It works well (although it's HTML/CSS-specific and doesn't cover other things like a more generic text/code editor might).
